'Chicken Soup' author inspires with personal teen story
KINGMAN - Alyssa Ast has a message she wants to pass along to teen moms struggling to find their place in life.
"If I can connect to some of them and let them know they're not alone, I will have fulfilled my purpose," said Kingman resident Ast, 26. "Anyone can reach their dream. I'm a high-school dropout and a teen mom, so I know that if I can succeed, so can they."
Ast speaks from experience. She was recently published in "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Writers," where she told her story in "Changing My Fate" of starting out on the bottom rung of life and ending up as a successful freelance writer.

KINGMAN - A Kingman woman's story of her teen pregnancy is included in the latest "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series for new moms. Alyssa Ast was just 17 when she became pregnant with her son, Michael. In her essay, entitled, "So This Is Love," Ast writes about how the tension of being pregnant at such a young age was compounded by several medical problems throughout her pregnancy.
